Abandoned church with a painting in the wilderness of the Tver region

Today I want to tell you about a unique church lost near Bezhetsk.

We go through the front door and find ourselves inside. 🗝 This is an interesting temple, built over 200 years ago – the most valuable example of Russian architecture, made in the Baroque style.

The church has preserved unique paintings from the mid-19th century.

The main attraction is the striking composition “The Expulsion of the Merchants from the Temple”. “Cloth” is impressive in its size. Choirs used to be located here. 🎶 By the way, in the middle of the composition, there is a doorway-window. On a small secret staircase you can go upstairs and view the temple from above!

I also advise you to pay attention to the other walls of the temple. The paintings on various biblical subjects and the quality of their execution are amazing! Unfortunately, they break down insanely quickly from moisture and dampness 😔

Eski is a picturesque village near Bezhetsk, located at the confluence of the Mologa and Oseni rivers. 🌊 It is located far from the main roads. As usual, the most striking spots are not easy to reach, but worth it. Which I advise you too 😉
